Ayurveda is a Sanskrit term meaning the science or knowledge of life. This 5000-year-old Indian science is a system of natural medicine that strives to promote and facilitate optimum health without harmful side effects. The Ayurvedic approach involves determining a person’s constitutional nature and identifying imbalances in his or her body/mind. To restore balance, specific recommendations are made for diet, lifestyle, herbs and treatments. Good health, in turn, brings fulfillment and creativity in life. As a holistic system, Ayurvedic medicine considers all aspects of health—physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.

The Ayurvedic approach to health is an ongoing process that involves finding the inner balance according to your constitution and the outer balance according to the cycles and rhythms of nature. Choosing natural healthcare implies making a commitment to take responsibility for one’s own health. The Ayurveda Center offers services and educational programs to support people in their chosen process of living their lives more in accordance with their own natures and with nature that exists all around us.

Yoga is also a science of self-development and self-realization oriented toward restoring balance to our holistic selves. It is from the same Vedic tradition and developed during the same period of history as Ayurveda. Yoga and Ayurveda have long been linked as complementary systems. Many practitioners of Ayurveda have turned to the hatha yoga as a powerful adjunct to their lifestyle changes. Likewise, many yoga practitioners have turned to Ayurveda for knowledge of proper diet and lifestyle for their unique situation. Yoga can be exercise for anyone, therapy for those who are not well, or a spiritual practice for those who hold that as a goal. The Ayurveda Center will be offering yoga classes to support holistic healing and rejuvenation and, ultimately, self-realization.
